On arrival in Lucca, commence a tour of the town's atmospheric streets and the Piazza San Martino. From the late Romanesque period, the conversion of the Langobards to Catholicism manifested itself in the construction of a score of churches.

Also featured are the large, rectangular stone walls built to encompass the city in the 16th century. In the 1800s, the city's surrounding walls were redesigned to include a verdant tree-lined promenade, a perfect enclosure to the serene city within.

Departing Lucca, continue into the surrounding olive-decked hills. Arrival at a local farm, where you are also treated to a taste of the area's fine extra virgin olive oils, wines, salamis and fettunta, a local specialty bread.

With your taste buds satisfied, proceed to a resplendent 16th-century estate. Once the summer home of noble families, this Baroque villa provides the perfect opportunity to stroll through verdant gardens and discover trickling fountains, carved grottoes and fresco-adorned chambers.
