Split is situated on a small peninsula on the eastern shores of the Adriatic Sea. Explore the city of Split, and then make your way to see the ruins of old Salona ruins, and the medieval city of Trogir.

Begin with a visit to the Diocletian's Palace, one of the most famous monuments in Croatia. The Palace, which covers an area of over 9 acres, was ordered built by the Roman emperor Diocletian and served as a combination palace and military camp. Hundreds of years later refugees from Salona occupied ruins, and the interior was converted into a town. Although over time the city spread out into the surrounding area, the palace still constitutes the inner core of the city. You will find that it is full of shops, markets, squares, and more. St. Dominius' Cathedral is another of Split's famous sites, located on the site of Diocletian's former mausoleum. Consecrated to the city's patron saint, the Cathedral's interior today retains much of the original decoration. You will also visit the Catacombes of Diocletian, located next to the southern wall of the palace. Although they are empty, they are quite impressive. Of course, you can't miss the Mestrovic Gallery, designed in the 1930s by the great 20th-century sculptor Ivan Mestrovic. The villa and its garden contain a vast collection of his works in wood, marble, stone and bronze. Now you are on to the ruins of Old Salona, and the city of Trogir. In the 3rd century, Salona was home to over 40,000 inhabitants. Accompany your guide on a tour that explores the excavated ruins, including the amphitheatre, burial grounds, early Christian churches, and baths. You will also visit the old medieval city of Trogir, perched atop a small island that is connected to the mainland via a small bridge. This walled city containes charming narrow lanes lined with stone houses, palaces, churches, and monasteries. Take some free time to wander around and explore, and visit the Town Hall and Cipiko Palace.
