A pleasant walk in Florence is just what you need to be introduced to the city and its splendor and secular heritage! Discover the ancient history of this enchanting and unique city with this guided tour in the footsteps of the legendary Medici family.

This Florence walking tour will give you the chance to discover the magnificence of one of the most enchanting cities in the world, and its centuries-old heritage, during a guided and enjoyable promenade in the footsteps of the Medici dynasty, that ruled over the city in the 14th and 15th centuries.

Your experienced and professional English-speaking Guide will be able to illustrate all the most important facts in the Florence history through an entertaining city presentation during the walking tour: you'll learn that the city has been inhabited since prehistoric times, before becoming a center of the Etruscan culture, and later, a Roman city with the name "Florentia". The Middle Ages of Florence is characterized by numerous wars with neighboring cities, but also by the increase in its wealth and power, thanks to textile manufacturing and trade, as well as to ambitious architectural projects.

But it's only under the leadership of the Medici family that Florence thanks to a period of peace and prosperity, became "the cradle of the Renaissance". At that time wealthy bankers and merchants invested in fine palaces to replace their cramped tower houses, and gave the churches money to enrich them with works of art.

The result is there for all to see: a stupendous open-air museum plenty with mesmerizing art masterpieces and stunning architecture. UNESCO World Heritage Site, enchanting, full of romance and sumptuously enhanced by centuries-old palaces and artwork, Florence is a treasure chest of wonders, all there for you to discover for yourself.

Walk with your Guide and admire Piazza della Signoria, dominated by the impressive Palazzo Vecchio, Florence's Cathedral - the Duomo - with the adjoining bell tower (the Tower of Giotto) and the Baptistery with its famous, gorgeous gold paneled "Gates of Paradise". The visit follows with the Orsanmichele and the Santa Trinita' Church.

A brief walk along the Arno river will then take you to the Ponte Vecchio, one of the world's most celebrated bridges. The other edge of the river is home of the pictoresque Oltrarno neighbourhood, renowned for its artisan workshops and antique shops. Here you are at the end of your tour: top it all with a tasting of the best typical products you can find in this area: an artisanal gelato (or a cappuccino/espresso in Winter) is waiting for you!
