For sure the city's most iconic landmark, the cathedral, Florence's Duomo, has been built over a period of a century and a half, with the contribution of important artists such as Arnolfo di Cambio, Giotto, Andrea Pisano and Brunelleschi, creator of the cupola.
Your Guide will point out the variety of styles visible in the grand interior, so many because the construction took almost 150 years. Admire the 44 stained-glass windows, the frescoes by Vasari and Zuccari, the impressive marble choir by Bandinelli and much more.
After having seen the interior of the Cathedral you will start your ascent up along a narrow staircase and some open corridors. The climb may be wearisome but will be more than worth it: the terraces, 32 meters (105 ft) high, are usually closed to the public, but they will be accessible for your group!
Once on top you will feel the privilege of being "in the sky". Marvel and relax in front of a panorama of red-tiled rooftops, medieval towers, busy streets and piazzas below, and the cypress-covered hills on the horizon. As you gaze at Florence's most spectacular view your Guide will tell you about Brunelleschi and how he was able to project and build the Cathedral cupola without scaffolding, and how it still stands today - apparently ignoring age and wear, earthquakes and wars.
If you want, right after the terrace sky-walk you can opt to climb up to the very top of Brunelleschi's dome using your fast-track Florence Duomo ticket: 91 meters (300 ft.) high, to enjoy yet more unforgettable views onto the "cradle of the Renaissance".
IMPORTANT: please note that there is a dress code for entrance to places of worship and some museums: no shorts or sleeveless tops are allowed, knees and shoulders must be covered for both men and women. Visitors not complying with the dress code requirements will be refused entrance.
