Mount Vesuvius is best known for its eruption in AD 79. As a result of this eruption, Pompeii and Herculaneum (Roman cities) were completely destroyed.
Pompeii was buried about 10 feet, whereas Herculaneum was buried under 75 of ashes. Herculaneum remained buried under the Earth for more than 1600 years, however, in 1709, it was accidentally discovered by some laborers while they were digging a well.

This tour is a journey back in the history spanning over 1600 years.
Depart with your Private Driver toward the Vesuvius area for a Full-day Tour that will include the Entrances to all the best sites in the area: the Archeological sites of Pompeii and Herculaneum and the top of the Volcano Vesuvius, where you will get the chance to walk along the edge of the frightening crater - and all these tickets will be already pre-booked and provided to you!

From the crater you will have a stunning view over the entire Bay of Naples, that goes from the Amalfi Coast peninsula to the city of Naples and the islands that dot the gulf. From here, you will notice how dangerous would be a new eruption: according to the official statistics, the current population of Naples' district is estimated around 3 million, which is potentially catastrophic in case of a violent awakening of the volcano.

On 23rd March, 1748 during the reconstruction of the city, the ancient ruins of Pompeii were also discovered from the site, almost 30 years after the previous discovering of ancient Herculaneum. After entering the site, you will be able explore some of the most fascinating sites surrounded with archeological wonders of the Roman history. Among the other, the Forum, the Great Theater, Thermal Baths, Vetti's House and Lupanare, buried by volcanic ashes and lapillus during the eruption in AD 79.

Having been buried very differently from Pompeii, Herculaneum has a level of preservation of the city that is not found elsewhere. The Archeo-site is then home of beautiful villas and major assets of the ancient Roman aristocracy. Visit and admire inlaid pavements, mosaics and paintings that have been sealed and well preserved from the hot mud that destroyed this area. See the beauty and the special atmosphere that still reigns in the excavations of the Herculaneum 's ruins.
