Catania, located on the East coast facing Ionian sea, is the 2nd largest city in Sicily and is best known for having a seismic history and past. Catania was destroyed by a catastrophic earthquake in 1169 and experienced several volcanic eruptions from the neighboring Mount Etna, the highest volcano in Europe and currently one of most active in the world. At its feet there's the charming Taormina, a famous resort town surrounded with numerous breathtaking scenic views.

The adventure, fun and discovery of this tour start with a relaxing drive through the slopes of Mount Etna reaching at an altitude of 2,500 above sea level. This altitude provides a wonderful view of the three Silvestri craters with the river of lava which came into existence as a result of the eruption in 1983-1985. You will also have time to walk around the crater. The tour will take you to Tenuta San Michele, an ancient estate located on the slopes of the volcano Etna. Mt. Etna is the highest volcano in Europe. The climate and the local soil together blend the typical wine taste of this area.

You will then drive downhill till reaching the stunning coastal town of Taormina, one of the Pearls of Sicily. Taormina is a famous resort town offering amazing views over the East coast of Sicily, but above all to be home of it most famous symbol: the Greek Theater, testimony of the ancient Greek civilization that built it in the 3rd century BC for musical and dramatic performances. It's still used, especially in Summer, for music events and classical dramas.
Taormina offers also an elegant central alley lined up with fashionable stores, ice cream and mouth-watering desserts vendors and of course monuments dating back to the medieval times, like the Cathedral dedicated to Saint Nicholas, and the 17th-century Baroque fountain with the city symbol in the center: the crowned centaur.

If your tour departed from Taormina, you will be more interested in spending some time in Catania, distant only 45 minutes' driving. Catania is a recap of everythink people think about Sicily! Explore the vibrant historical centre. Let yourself be enchanted by the architectural beauties of the old town, as well as the colors and the sounds coming from what is likely the most alive city in Sicily, and the second largest. Symbol of the city is the lava-stone fountain surmounted by an elephant with an obelisk on its back, known as 'Liotru', and thought to protect the city from disasters. On the other side of the square is the famous "Pescheria", the noisy, colorful fish market, held every morning except Sunday.
