Catania is a synthesis of everything that is commonly thought about Sicily! Explore the vibrant historical centre and let yourself be enchanted by the architectural beauties of the old town, as well as the colors and the sounds coming from what is likely the most alive city in Sicily, and the second largest.

The discovery and exploration of this tour starts upon your arrival at Catania. Here you will have time to walk around and explore the historical places and buildings including, Piazza Duomo (Cathedral Square) that's of course the central square of Catania Old-town, which is best famous for the unique Elephant Obelisk located in the middle. This lava-stone statue stands as a symbol of Catania since 1200 AD. You will also see the Cathedral and the Chapel of Sant'Agata containing the precious treasures of the Saint, whose this big church is dedicated to.

On the other side of the square, however, you will encounter the most popular and folk-like face of the city: behind a splendid fountain (whose water cascades into a hidden river that flows about 2 meters below the square!), walking down a short staircase made of lava stone you reach the incredible "Pescheria", a fish market like you've never seen a similar one, and that in fact constitutes one of the main tourist attractions of Catania. The Pescheria is open every morning except Sunday.

Also, see the Benedictine Monastery, one of the largest in Europe and most important cultural centers in Sicily. This center now serves as the Faculty of Literature and Philosophy for the University of Catania.

As you will travel back along the Cyclops Coast, don't miss the chance for passing by the Bellini Gardens which spread over 45 square miles and contain various avenues, squares, bridges, borders and fountains. You will also stop-over to picture the famous Norman Aci Castello, built in 1076 AD on a hill of lava rock, and the scenic panorama of the Cyclops Islands, before being dropped off at the Port of Messina (but contact us for a different and bespoke Itinerary).
