West of Florence, going towards the coast, Tuscany offers us two authentic urban masterpieces in its rich panorama of unforgettable cities and countries: Lucca and Pisa. The first one surprises for being one of the few medieval cities built on a plan and for being enclosed in three circles of defensive walls still intact. Pisa is mainly known for its Leaning Tower and most visitors come to Pisa to admire the monuments in Piazza dei Miracoli, or "Square of Miracles", where the Tower, the Cathedral and the Baptistery form the main attraction of the city.

Morning departure from Florence (please check the "Notes" box below for different departure points) with your English-speaking Driver/guide. First stop will be in Lucca: this charming town is known for its intact Renaissance-era city walls, which have eleven bastions of different shapes and dimensions. The walls remained intact as the city expanded and modernized. When they lost their military importance, they became a pedestrian promenade. Sites of interest are the Roman amphiteater that today stands as the Amphitheater Square, the archeological remains under the 12th century church of Saints Giovanni and Reparata, the Cathedral of San Martino, The Guinigi Tower and the villas outside the city walls.

You can take advantage of the several delicious restaurants that dot the tiny squares of the town while enjoying some free time to explore the town on your own: Lucca is way less touristy than other Tuscan towns, is not built on a hill, and has many pedestrian-only streets within the old walls.

With your Driver/guide at disposal continue to Pisa to admire the enchanting "Piazza dei Miracoli", the large square home of Leaning Tower, the Baptistery and the beautiful Cathedral. The Tower was originally designed to be the Cathedral bell tower, and stands 185 feet high. There is a 297 step spiral staircase inside the tower leading to the top. If all or some of you want to climb the tower... don't hesitate to ask us to reserve the skip-the-line admissions (ask us for pre-booking the tickets on your behalf, but remember that there is no elevator inside the tower, of course!)
